The Humboldt Murals Committee has chosen the design for the Canada 150 mural that will be placed on the Sasktel Building on Main Street later this year.

The mural is just one of many that will be seen throughout the country to celebrate Canada's 150th birthday in 2017.

Museum Director Jennifer Hoesgen says it was quite the process to determine the theme for Humboldt.

"Humboldt is really made up of so many things, it's not just agriculture, it's not just business, the faith communities are important, there's music and culture and education and manufacturing and mining and so they really thought that there were so many things that make up the community."

Hoesgen described how they came down to the official design, "we had asked that the Canada 150 theme actually have many people holding up the word Humboldt because that's what really builds community and so as designs go sometimes not everything works how you want it so it actually ended up being the Humboldt with people sitting on top of it."

The mural which will be composed of 750 tiles will be painted by residents during the Humboldt Summer Sizzler.

"People can have a look at the image, they can start thinking about if they were gonna paint a four inch tile, what would they do? What does Humboldt mean to them and what would they like to see in the mural," said Hoesgen.

The image can be viewed on the city of Humboldt's website.

They are also looking for community sponsors, donations can be made at City Hall.
