A steady stream of parents and kids walked through the Humboldt Public School playground Wednesday evening for the school's first Story Path.

The pages of "Lost and Found" by Oliver Jeffers - a feel-good story about a boy and a penguin who become friends - were taped up along the fence for people to read as a way to celebrate Education Week, teacher Michelle LaFayette said.

"Everyone was very interested in it and they weren't really sure what to expect because it's our first time doing it - they weren't sure how we were going to do a story outside. But once they got here and they saw the story up there they were excited to participate."

She's seen the idea be successful in other schools, she said.

"We wanted activities that draw the community together and also celebrate literacy."

"I just wanted to enjoy a nice night with my family and to read this book," 10-year-old Katheryn Coppens said. It's more fun reading outside, but inside is warmer, she said.

Neva MacKay, who brought her five-year-old son Oliver MacKay-Miller, said the outdoor setting helped keep him more engaged - though he might have been more excited for hot chocolate and cookies afterward, she said.

"Good!" Oliver exclaimed when asked how much he enjoyed the activity.
