The Humboldt RCMP are spreading the word that they are not in the business of collecting taxes.

They are warning the public about a couple scams making the rounds.

In one incident an individual calls the victim claiming to be an RCMP officer and advises the victim that they have a warrant for their arrest for tax-related reasons. The caller claims to be calling on behalf of the Canada Revenue Agency and attempts to collect payment for unpaid taxes over the telephone.

In another instance, someone calls the victim claiming to be an employee with Revenue Canada or the CRA and threatens to send the RCMP to arrest the victim if they did not pay unpaid taxes whether or not the victim has tax payments up to date.

The RCMP warn, if something is too good to be true it likely is.

Anyone that receives a similar call from someone claiming to be from the CRA or someone calling on their behalf is encouraged to not provide any personal information and to end the call.
