The City of Humboldt has released a draft of its 2018 budget.

“It’s a lot of work that goes into preparing a proposed budget for council. I’m very pleased with how it has turned out so far, what we can recommend to council. I think it addresses a lot of the sustainability issues that I’ve heard council concerned with," city manager Joe Day said.

The plan projects tax increases of two per cent annually over the next five years.

It sets aside more than $3.1 million for principal payments, reserve contributions and capital expenditures.

Capital projects include water main replacement and roadwork on 9th Avenue, 6th Avenue and 3rd Street, as well as repairing the four existing ball diamonds at Centennial Park and adding two more.

Administration is also introducing the idea of Cost Centres to better budget, track and discuss specific activities where money is spent.

Council is scheduled to discuss and approve the budget at a public meeting on January 29.
