Humboldt will be without a transportation service for the foreseeable future just days before the new year rolls in.

City Taxi has been in Humboldt since 2004 and the owners of the company will be retiring, thus closing their car doors on December 29th.

"I'm tired and retiring," Kathleen Forster said with a laugh. Forster drove for the taxi company that she and her husband owned.

As for what is to follow for transportation services coming to Humboldt, City Manager Joe Day mentioned nothing concrete has been put into motion yet.

"The city really has no role as in regulating or attracting anything with the taxicab industry. We heard that the local taxicab company may be shutting down, so we're hoping that somebody else will fill that void, but at this time council isn't directing any action in that area right now," said Day.

A ride-sharing company such as U-Ride has been rumoured to have interest in Humboldt, but as of now, no timeframe has been determined.

"A U-Ride or any kind of ride sharing or taxicab operation would have to come to City Hall and apply for a business licence, that's really the only restriction or intervention City Hall would have. There's been interest in a ride-sharing company coming to Humboldt, but as far as any dates or timelines we haven't heard anything definite there."
