Some snow shovels were out on Thursday morning, while others simply said: "forget about it".

The City of Humboldt's first brush with snow for the pending winter season arrived on Wednesday afternoon.

Starting out as thick, wet snow, it turned into some lighter snowflakes as the temperature dipped below zero through the overnight hours.

The result, however, was chunks of ice on streets and sidewalks.

Environment Canada had issued a weather statement for rain, snow, and wind throughout the evening and overnight periods.

The majority of the system that passed through slanted from the west-central side of the province down south, so Humboldt didn't see as much snow as other parts of the province.

Area highways are experiencing some icy conditions, which are expected to improve throughout the day.

Thursday's daytime high will only reach around zero to minus-two degrees before going back on the plus side of the thermometer as the weekend hits.
