The City of Humboldt and the Humboldt Murals Committee is getting in on the Canada 150 celebration set for 2017.

Over a two year span communities across the nation will create murals depicting Canada's strong railway heritage.

In June, two workshops will be held where residents will get to be involved.

Director of Cultural Services Jennifer Hoesgen explained more about the project.

"Individuals can create and talk to us about what is special about the city and what makes Humboldt great and then all of those tiles will be combined into one large eight foot by twelve foot mural and that will be displayed on the SaskTel Building which we are very excited about."

Hoesgen added that they are ecstatic to be part of the event, "we want to ensure that Humboldt has beautiful art in the city and art has really a way of making a city unique it's something that you're not going to see in every other city so really the murals committee is looking to include more public art and of course tying that in with the history of the community and Canada's 150, there was just a lot of synergy there that kind of really brought everything together."

The SaskTel building that the mural will be placed on is located downtown directly across from City Hall.

SaskTel Communications for External Communications Tara Tibeau said they are happy to be involved.

"You know SaskTel has been part of Humboldt for a very long time and we plan to stay here, we are part of the community, you know our employees work and live here so we're very excited to be part of a project like this that's gonna be a really nice way for the the city of Humboldt to show off a little bit."

As of right now, Humboldt is the only community in Saskatchewan to be selected for a mural with workshops being held in June of next year.
