Another Summer Sizzler has come and gone in Humboldt.

Five days of fun and excitement was widely supported by the area, and City Events Manager Mike Ulriksen says that it showed.

"It was quite the weekend. We had a lot of ambitious plans for this year's event, we brought in a bunch of new things in and expanded the event," he noted. "Looking back, we're just extremely excited by how it went over. Attendance for all the events was just fantastic. First impression is we hit the nail on the head."

This year saw the addition of a kickoff concert featuring Chris Culgin Band. There was also monster truck rides, a strongman competition, wrestling show and comic-con.

One of the key points of being able to get continual support and growth, is finding events that keep people coming back.

Ulriksen says they will be looking to do just that for next year.

"It will be the same size and hopefully a little bit bigger. We already have some ideas on what we can do to bring in something different and get people excited like they were this year."

Large or small, success of an event is often attributed to those who don't get all the spotlight, but are the backbone of making things possible.

"Those non-profit groups that are out there, busting their butts, they deserve most of the recognition for the event being as successful as it was," explained Ulriksen.

He noted that community sponsors were way up for 2016, which is another encouraging sign for future Sizzler years.

Next on the agenda for the City of Humboldt will be the annual Canada Day celebration, once again held at Water Ridge Park. More details will emerge closer to July 1.
