Two jewel thieves wind up in a restaurant and in an ironic twist, must disguise themselves as chefs after losing diamonds.

That's one of the main stories of Million Dollar Meatballs, which will be performed three times in Humboldt beginning on Wednesday.

The performances are being done out of the newly formed Humboldt Theater Club.

"It is a comedy, it is extremely funny and has a cast of about 12 of us and takes place in modern day setting," said President and Director Sarah Miller.

The Humboldt Theater Club is a relatively new group to the culture scene in the city, and has taken a twist from a former group, according to Miller.

"It is a new organization to replace the old Humboldt Community Players," she explained. "The Humboldt Community Players was a theater group that existed a few years ago and I took it upon myself to start the initiative back up."

Miller said that with sports taking place year round, and other activities to keep people busy, dipping further into the arts scene is where she wanted to go.

"There's not much in Humboldt for the arts other than the museum, gallery and library. I wanted to get something going where it would help those people who are diverse and have different types of interest."

The first two performances - one on Wednesday and one on Thursday - will be dinner theater style, with a full meal served and dessert provided at the intermission.

A final show on Sunday will be a matinee show with only dessert available.

Miller says that while the group is new to both the arts scene and to getting a grasp on the play, they are anticipating an enjoyable atmosphere.

"It's going to be fun, it's going to be exciting. This is the first play we have done. We decided to do it in quite a short amount of time as we have only been rehearsing for about three months."

Tickets are available at Shoppers Drug Mart in Humboldt or Twisted Tails in Englefeld.

Show times for Wednesday and Thursday are 6:00pm. Tickets are available for $25. Sunday's afternoon showing begins at 3:00, with tickets dropping down to $15.

The club plans on doing two plays each year, with their showing planned for the winter. If you are looking to get involved, you can find more details through their Facebook page.
