The City of Humboldt expects to save $274,030 on water main replacements this year.

The city had budgeted $643,000 for the project, but the lowest bid for the work, from Brockman Enterprises, was $348,731 plus taxes.

Council awarded the tender to Brockman Enterprises at Monday's meeting.

The city will also spend $50,000 on video inspection and cleaning of the areas affected, according to a staff report to council.

In addition to the savings from the low bid, the city is also redirecting the $76,028 left over from water distribution facility upgrades, which also came in under budget.

Work is slated to be done on 9th Avenue, 6th Avenue and 3rd Street.
