Humboldt City Council has pre-approved an increase in their water rates.

At their meeting on Monday they gave the go ahead to a three percent increase in the base fee and another eight percent on consumption fees.

The uptake means residential customers will pay between $3.92 and $6.17 more a month; or $47 to $74 annually.

Council still needs to approve the bylaw, that is expected at the December 12th meeting.

Also, bills will be monthly now, currently the utility bill covers two months.

If approved the new rates will take effect January 15th.
