The Jansen area is getting set to welcome hundreds of current and former residents of the area for Canada Day.

In addition to their regular Canada Day festivities, a homecoming is taking place, according to Bruce Elke of the organizing committee.

"It's been some 25 years we have been doing this, and this year we decided to make it a homecoming. It has been about 10 years since we have done one of those."

Elke noted that they have 450 people registered for the homecoming and 16 teams playing slo-pitch, which is bound to make it a highlight of the weekend in the area.

Throughout Saturday and Sunday, a unique aspect of the weekend will allow for a chance to view the area from above.

"LeRoy Daycare is going on board with us. They're bringing a helicopter to take people on rides and show people around that area, and the Quill Lakes and what is happening with the water levels," explained Elke. "From the air, it always looks different as to how the damage really is."

Proceeds from the rides will all go towards the daycare.

Elke noted that there are activities for the entire family, with kids rides on Saturday and Sunday, as well as human foosball, soccer, a car show and talent show.

The festivities kick off Friday night with a town-wide scavenger hunt and cabaret with Humboldt's own 40oz. Philosophy.

Events are planned to start at 6:00pm Friday, 7:30am Saturday and 8:00am on Sunday, going all day long each day.
