A mid-January warm spell has led to new temperature records for area communities.

In Watrous, the temperature peaked at 5.1 degrees, surpassing the previous record set in 1991. A similar situation occurred in Wynyard where the temperature reached 3.1 degrees.

Environment Canada says that the two towns were among three other Saskatchewan record breakers on Wednesday.

Saskatoon and Kindersley surpassed old marks while Elbow tied their record.

Humboldt fell short by 0.8 degrees, with a daytime high of 3.1, and the old record sitting at four.

The warm air is expected to last for a few more days, according to the weather agency, which could lead to more records being broken.

Thursday's expected high in Humboldt and Wynyard is five, while Watrous could reach as high as nine.
