Just over a year ago, the lead singer of Streetheart and Canadian rock musician Kenny Shields passed away at the age of 69.

So the people of his hometown in Nokomis came together to honour him on September 1st, 2018 with a sign. Bonnie Decker, Chairperson of the committee said that a lot of people got together to get the sign made back in March 2017 before the passing of Shields.

"I called the first meeting in August (2017), unfortunately, Kenny had passed before he knew the project was about to begin."

The original plan was to get two small signs at either end of town as people drove in. Although, after some generous donations the sign was able to become much more elaborate than originally planned.

After the unveiling of the sign, speeches took place at the Centennial Hall from the Mayor of Nokomis, Shields' wife, and many more. Then people enjoyed refreshments as a silver collection was up for purchase. The funds from the collection would go towards the museum in Nokomis.

Kenny Shields passed away at the St. Boniface General Hospital in Winnipeg on July 21st, 2017. Saskatchewan will be celebrating Kenny Sheilds day this upcoming Thursday as well.
