The past year was an extraordinary one for the residents of the City of Humboldt. The crash of the Humboldt Bronco's bus in April of 2018 brought the world to Humboldt looking to express their thoughts, wishes, sorrow, and love.

While it was a community that bore the weight of that loss, one man had to stand in front. Kevin Garinger became the voice and the face Humboldt. While he was nominated three times for the Citizen of the Year award, the judges felt the honour should also be given to all those who offered support and assistance. The committee expressed the desire "to acknowledge the benefit and beauty of community, both local and global, supporting and serving one another for the sake of humanity."

Kevin Garinger will accept the Citizen of the Year Award on behalf of all. The award, sponsored by the Humboldt Journal,  will be presented at the Humboldt Mark of Excellence Awards on March 20th.
