Amanda Klitch is eager to help Humboldt grow.

The former JCI Humboldt President has thrown her name into the running for one of six open council seats.

"I'm running because I am very passionate about this city. I have lived here my whole life and I have seen this city grow tremendously," she explained of her reason to run for council. "I want to be part of the growth in the community and the decision making. I think it is important to have age ranges on council and I think it is important to have men and women on council."

Klitch is one of 11 women and men who are looking to capture a spot on the new council.

When asked what the main issue for the city is at this time, Klitch noted that being ready for growth is important.

"To make sure we have an infrastructure that is going to be able to handle new businesses and new homes, and land ready for new businesses to come in," she said. "I think it's important that our infrastructure is strong, that our lagoon is ready to handle all our waste management. It is important for our streets and roads to be ready to go and able to handle all the busy streets."

In bringing in new opportunities for the city, Klitch says that clear ties between the city, people, and business is also key.

"I think making sure that we keep strong communication and strong relationships with existing businesses, and making sure they are enjoying their time in the community," she added. "It's also important to find new businesses and have new resources."

Advance polls for Humboldt's election began on Thursday, with a second poll being held Saturday. The election takes place Wednesday, October 26.
