An overwhelming amount of support for Jerry Angelstad filled the dining hall at St. Augustine's church in Humboldt on Sunday.

The Knights of Columbus joined forces with other community members to host a pancake breakfast with the goal of raising funds to help out one of their own.

Angelstad has run Angelstad's Quick Cobbler in Humboldt for 45 years and is also part of the Knights of Columbus. He was diagnosed with advanced kidney cancer in October and is preparing for the battle of his life.

Angelstad took to the podium to explain more about these new treatments to his supporters at the breakfast. He says he is going to work with MD Anderson in Texas and has been told that "(the doctor) can definitely help (him) with these promising treatments."

"MD Anderson's goal is to eradicate cancer. There is a lot of hope in that."

Angelstad hopes to travel to Texas to take part in a clinical trial to beat the disease. The initial cost is $50,000 to start the treatments. The Knights of Columbus and the Humboldt community were inspired to help with these enormous costs through fundraising efforts such as the pancake breakfast.

The dining hall quickly filled up and many volunteers served up pancakes with smiles for this great cause.

Angelstad spoke with palpable heartfelt thanks as he concluded his message to the crowd:

"Thank you, everyone, for coming on this hopeful journey with me and my family."
