Fish were caught, holes were drilled, and the Lake Lenore Lions Ice fishing derby was a great success.

The catch and release derby was looking for Walleye, Northern Pike and Perch.

Myrlen Kleiboer was a participant in the derby.

He describes why he ice fishes every year.

"Ice fishing is kind of neat. You get out here, and it's kind of a social atmosphere for us, and I don't know, it's just something to do in the winter time that gets you out of the house."

Kleiboer says this isn't his first Lake Lenore derby.

"We've come now 4 or 5 years in a row. It's a good cause and something that's a lot of fun to do."

Kleiboer explains it isn't just about the fishing.

"If it's specifically about here, it's a good cause, a good place for the money to go for the community and stuff, and it's enjoyable, you get to meet new people out here, and it's a good time."

Prizes were available to first, second and third place, as well as a prize for the smallest fish.

Prizes went as followed:

Biggest Fish: 50% Payout

Second Biggest Fish: 25% Payout

Third Biggest Fish: 15% Payout

Smallest Fish: 10% Payout
