After a near-death encounter with a bear, a man from Lanigan and his wife received a bravery award.

Brad and Casadi Schroeder had Brad's Father receive the award on their behalf in Regina on Monday.

The award comes after surviving an attack on July 10th from a black bear when occupying a cabin in Meadow Lake Provincial Park with their three children. According to Brad Schroeder, the bear attacked when his wife went out to warn others after it attempted to enter their cabin.

"She went out keeping a good distance but as soon the bear saw her, and he just kind of locked on to her and kind of charged her at the end," said Shroeder.

Shroeder defended his wife as the bear attacked them both. In the end, the couple and some neighbouring campers managed to fight off the bear. Both Brad and Casadi sustained injuries during the encounter as the family was fortunate to survive on that fateful day.
