The Lanigan High School football program is in full swing and in turn so are fundraising efforts.

The 6 man football team hosted a bottle drive throughout the community of Lanigan on Tuesday, September 8th. The Lanigan Lazers, who have been in operation since 2009, consists of around 30 students along with numerous coaches and parent volunteers. Citizens of Lanigan were encouraged to leave their bottles and containers at the curb, which would later be picked up and sorted by about 50 members of the team. The program is a great opportunity to give young individuals an opportunity to realize their potential not only as players but as people as well.

When asked about why the bottle drive is so helpful, Head Coach Ryan Wilson mentioned that some budget cuts mean going the extra mile to ensure the program remains available for the students.

"There have been cuts that have come either through the school division or through sponsors that have shut down or moved away," Wilson stated.

"So, we're always looking for ways to keep the club financially stable. Football is not a cheap sport to play."

The process was a rather quick one, as Wilson gave us the detail on how it was carried out.

"Michael Jordan, one of the assistant coaches divided the entire town into sections, depending on the number of trucks we had, and we would send out 5 guys per team, and left the other half of the team back at SARCAN to sort them into new bags."

The final tally from Sarcan has not been identified yet but was noted as enough to make a difference. The Lazers travel to Viscount Friday night in hopes of going 3 and 0.
