All you need to help give back to the military on Saturday, is golf clubs and an appetite.

The Royal Canadian Legion in Humboldt is hosting the 6th Annual Support the Troops scramble at the Humboldt Golf Club.

"What we've been organizing for several years is a fun golf scramble. Getting people to come out and show support for the military and their families," said Sherry Hogemann, one of the organizers of the event.

She added that the scramble was created due to a family connection.

"Our son was in the military. In 2010, he was deployed to Afghanistan and that's when we started doing these events to get people to come and support our military."

Hogemann's son has since completed his time, and now works in Edmonton.

Funds from the scramble will go to Paws for Veterans as well as the Central Saskatchewan Military Family Resource Centre.

"They have programs for the military and their families there," said Hogemann of the resource centre. "They support people that also live off base. All these programs they have for them are run on fundraised dollars."

When they were launching the first fundraiser in 2010, Hogemann happened to find out ahead of time that the centre would be supporting her family.

"There was a lady there who said 'oh you have someone deployed. That means we would be calling you once a month,'" explained Hogemann. "The military does that. When someone is deployed and they know someone in the area, they call once a month. We also had someone from the Edmonton base call."

"It was really helpful for us to be able to have someone for support while our son was deployed," she continued.

Registration for the scramble will end at 6:00pm on Wednesday. For $90, you receive 18 holes of golf, a cart and steak dinner. Those interested in attending only the dinner may do so as well at a reduced cost.

You can call Hogemann at 306-682-6643 to sign up.
