Bruno golf course and campground offered free golf this weekend for everyone who attended.

Festivities included a barbecue in the Lions Multi-purpose building, generously put on by the Bruno Lions Club.

Dave Mairs is the President of the Board of Directors for the Bruno Golf course.

he talks about how they were trying to spread the message of how good the course is.

"The important thing for us was to create awareness in the community. We have beautiful little golf course here and we just feel as though it's under-used by the community at large, and so we wanted to create awareness, create the opportunity for people to come to the golf course who might not otherwise be able to do it."

Around 50 different golfers hit the links for this weekend's free golf weekend.

Mairs describes the course.

"The other thing is that the course is not a push-over. It's a tough little course. It tests your abilities, it tests your putting especially. One thing (people) should know is that our greens are quite unique in Saskatchewan. We have greens that are actually the old turf off of Taylor Field."

The Bruno Lions Club held a barbecue on the saturday, with proceeds going to golf course improvement.

Mairs, explains the amount of support for the golf course is phenomenal.

"We have some support from most of the businesses from in Bruno. We also have a great deal of support from the surrounding area. We have good support from Cudworth, Wakaw, Meacham, all of those towns have expressed interest in coming. We hope this is just the 1st Annual."

Donation proceeds as well as barbecue proceeds go towards upgrading the golf course.
