Learning to give back at a young age, the Humboldt Raging Broncos Atom hockey team is going to be rewarded for doing just that.

The Broncos received $1,000 from Scotiabank in Humboldt for being selected in the Community Hockey program.

"It's going to help the kids be able to play hockey in Humboldt," explained Team Manager Lorrie Bunko. "They are really excited about it. It is a big boost for them and we all know hockey can be quite costly and expensive and this is just an added bonus for these kids."

In order to receive the funding from Scotiabank, the team had to explain what they would like to do to give back to the community.

Bunko says that the team will be out helping a family and some neighbours with a common winter chore.

"The kids have decided to give back to the community, they are going to sponsor a family in the Kinettes Adopt a Family program," she noted. "They are going to participate in this by doing the shopping for the family, so they are pretty excited about that."

"Once we get that first snowfall, the kids are also going to be going out and shovelling driveways for neighbours and those who need help in doing so."

Teaching kids the rewarding feeling of contributing to their community while doing so as part of a team is a win for everybody, says Bunko.

"It is a part of team building, it is getting to know your teammates, everyone is inclusive and working together for a common goal. It's very important."
