The Government of Saskatchewan ended the fiscal period for 2017 with the provincial deficit much less than expected in last years budget.

Donna Harpauer, Finance Minister of the provincial Government, says the deficit is $303 million.

"We're in a much stronger position and we still have a deficit, but the deficit is half of what we projected."

The projected deficit was originally $659 Million.

Harpauer credits the potash sectors, oil sectors, and the agriculture.

Especially the potash mines and farming in Humboldt and the surrounding area.

She states that the provincial government is on track to balance the budget by at least 2020.
