If you had one call to make from jail, who would bail you out?

That was the answer many Humboldt residents were looking for on Tuesday, as the Canadian Cancer Society hosted a Jail-N-Bail event.

Humboldt Public School Principal Clayton Parobec was among those whisked away from his workspace to participate.

"We were contacted a couple weeks back about the opportunity to participate in the event," he explained of his involvement. "We sort of knew, but not to the extent of when I got down here and saw the suits and the bars and everything - it's pretty cool."

Kalina Barlow, a fundraising specialist with the cancer society, says that after they contact prospective cell mates, they go the full extent to bring them in front of "the law".

"On the actual day, we have our drivers come around and our detectives pick up all the jailbirds and we take them to our jail."

The CCS allows jailbirds to get a head start on raising funds through their online page, allowing Parobec to make his day easy to pass the $500 bail goal.

Still though, he says that he wanted to bring in more due to its importance.

"Although I have achieved bail already, it is going to a great cause, so we are going to try to achieve as much bail as we possibly can."

"The Canadian Cancer Society is a great organization and I think we can all agree that from one point or another, everyone has been touched by somebody who has been impacted by cancer."

Barlow says that it is a critical time for the CCS, as they expect case numbers to boom in the next two decades.

"In about the next 15 years, we are expecting about a 40 percent increase in cancer cases, so we would really like to get funds now to see if we can change some of those stats."

She noted that money collected through the Jail-N-Bail and other provincial programs will continue to support awareness within Saskatchewan.

"Funds that they raise go to programs we have in the province, advocacy and prevention, as well as some research."

Over $6,600 was raised throughout the day.
