As a strike becomes more and more likely, it's sounding like the Humboldt Post Office may be closed on Monday.

The Union representing the Postal Workers turned down a 30-day cooling off period because of binding arbitration, which makes the Monday deadline near impossible to overcome.

The Canadian Union of Postage Workers turned down the 30-day cool off period agreement because of a binding arbitration agreement involved in the agreement.

The Union felt the binding arbitration would limit the Union's flexibility in the negotiation process, and in turn end up with a deal they feel would be unfair.

Canada Post originally turned down a similar agreement earlier in the contract dispute, but later agreed on the condition that if a deal wasn't reached in the 30-day period, the two sides would go to binding arbitration.

The two sides seem stuck on major points of the potential new deal including employee pensions and wage parity.
