Nearly 100 more local kids were involved in sports last year, thanks to Humboldt's Jumpstart chapter.

A big reason for seeing that number is Jumpstart Day, which takes place Saturday at Canadian Tire.

"It's the first day of what we call Jumpstart Month, which is our primary fundraising month," explained Humboldt's Jumpstart Chair Joe Mohr. "Jumpstart is a charity that Canadian Tire started and it is primarily used to get kids involved in sport."

Mohr says that organizations like Jumpstart are crucial to allow kids to get involved.

"People can receive assistance with funds for registration or funds with equipment. It's a great thing for local kids. Over $15,000 went to local kids last year."

There will be a barbecue beginning at 11:00am with one of the big attractions being the dunk tank.

Volunteers sit up on a perch above a pool of water and when a ball hits the circle on the front of the tank, the bench drops and the person gets dropped into the water.

"Local business owners and politicians are generously donating their time to try and raise some money," said Mohr.

He added that one local business owner has consistently had the most people wanting to send him into the water.

"I'd love to challenge anybody. Our undefeated champ is Dave Doepker of Sobeys. He always raises the most amount of money."

"I don't know if it's just because his staff like to dunk him or what," Mohr joked.

All it takes is a donation of $5, which gives you three balls to throw. A donation of $20 will allow you to simply push the button to ensure a dunking takes place.

Each person is in the tank for 15 minutes.
