When delegates from across the province visit Humboldt next month for the 50th Anniversary Museum Association of Saskatchewan conference, they will be greeted with many origami lilies.

Catherine Harrison, cultural programmer for the Humboldt and District Art Gallery & Museum, has been learning how to create the folded-paper prairie lilies for the centrepieces at the conference.

Harrison welcomed the public to the Museum on Saturday to learn what it takes to make these paper flowers, all done in the signature blue colour of the association.

Harrison explains that that museums in the province are focusing on storytelling and creating community stories and engagement.

"What better way to have some fun and get people involved in the project than to have an open day and help make the centrepieces?" she says.

The hope is that the lilies will become part of the story of the conference and the story of Humboldt's museum.

"We can show them what lovely, talented people we have here in Humboldt! It's a big honor, especially since it's the 50th anniversary. The fact that they chose Humboldt for this celebration is pretty significant," says Harrison.

120 delegates from all over the province will visit Humboldt on June 7, 8, 9th.
