Middle Lake Lions Club president, Ken Herman, says the great turnout at the year's annual poker rally could be partly attributed to the "guaranteed $2500" payout to the first place winner. He estimates 100 sleds took to the snow the day of the rally.

Although the day began with overcast skies, Herman says he was pleased the sun came out an brightened things up in the afternoon. Despite the odd patch of "uncooperative" snow, the conditions were fairly good as well. Herman says jokingly, "There were no casualties or complaints!"

Along with the poker winnings, there were door prizes, 50/50 and a silent auction. Hamburgers, homemade soups, and pies were donated and offered at lunchtime to participants.

The "guaranteed $2500" first prize winnings were split by Ed Bautz and Keith Laforme, both residents of Middle Lake.

Second prize was over $1000 and also split between two winners. It was a three-way tie for the $700 third place prize and a six-way split for the $200 fourth place prize.

Herman says he would like to thank all the volunteers and "extra bodies" who donated their time to make the day a success. Herman says the proceeds of the fundraiser will go towards the new multiplex facility in Middle Lake.
