The Marysburg Royals are holding their ninth annual baseball skills camp next weekend.

“We love it. A lot of us have worked with kids over the past number of years in regards to teaching and coaching, and not only baseball, all sports,” Curtis Strueby said.

“So it’s incredibly satisfying to see the kids try to develop a love of the game at this level.”

The camp is a fundraiser for the Royals, and a way for the team to give back to the area, he said.

Younger players learn the basics, with lots of movement throughout the day, taking ground balls and fly balls. The Royals also spend a lot of time teaching how to throw and hit.

“They get a lot of repetitions for each skill they need to learn for the game.”

The older kids learn more advanced skills, such as the proper way to lead off, how turn double plays, and proper cuts from the outfield.
