YoungMural (1)

The Village of Young has brand new eye candy for residents and visitors to check out.

A free standing mural was recently put up that is 20 feet high and 80 feet long.

Proud Mural artist Michael Gaudet exlpains the story behind his art.

"It's 32 scenes of the farm life and history of the Village of Young, Saskatchewan. Everybody in the mural, all the scenes, and all the people are recognizable."

Gaudet goes on to explain how the mural was painted.

"The original mural was painted in 2012. I painted inside the rink at Young. The original plan was to mount the mural on the outside of the rink facing the highway, but it turns out it was so massive that we couldn't guarantee the structural integrity of the buildings."

Gaudet added that he posted a 30 second video of the mural on Social media, and received over 10,000 views on the first day.

"If you haven't seen it, you wouldn't believe it. This thing is absolutely massive it's actually ten feet off the ground"

Gaudet has done about 60 other murals across Canada, including Regina and Saskatoon, and some more small town Saskatchewan murals in Maple Creek, Strasbourg, Kamsack and Outlook. His next project is a mural in Tisdale later this summer.

Former residents of Young are expected to gather for the ribbon cutting, which is being planned for August.
