Warmer temperatures have arrived for Humboldt and area, and while highway conditions may seem ideal, there is an opportunity for pavement frost.

Steve Shaheen with the Ministry of Highways says that typically we see pavement frost when the temperature does warm up.

"That's where ice can form when there is a fluctuation of road and air temperatures. It's similar to bringing a turkey out of the freezer. When you set it on the counter, you get that bit of frost on there. It's no different than the roads."

He says that can create some slick conditions on highways.

The ministry is always monitoring the roads during the winter season, and this year has been a more positive year for highway traffic, due to a lack of normal winter conditions, says Shaheen.

"It's been a pretty good winter for crews because of the colder weather. We also haven't had significant snowfalls like last year, and so the snow hasn't really been sticking or blowing around, which creates a lot of problems."

While March arrives on Thursday and spring inches closer, there is still some snowfall expected to come for the area.

That is likely to arrive as early as Friday and could continue on and off throughout the weekend.
