Seeking his magic lamp and the Princess, with a humourous twist on a classic tale, the cast of Aladdin performed twice in Humboldt on Saturday.

As Aladdin tries to land a date with Princess Dory, he seeks answers from Genies, the Sultan, his mom, and others in order to find a way to meet the Princess. After finding the magic lamp, Aladdin learns that it takes much more than a simple wish to make a good impression.

Fifty boys and girls in the Humboldt area ranging in age from five to 18 years put in over 20 hours of rehearsal throughout the week leading up to the showing.

The performance was put on by Missoula Children's Theatre in association with Arts Humboldt.

"It was really cool to see all of them. It was awesome to see them at auditions. They were really, really eager to begin the auditions," said Tour Actor and Director with Missoula, Carlysle Garland. "It was a really good bunch, they were really interactive, very funny, and just having a great time, which helps us have an even better time."

This year marked the fourth straight year that Arts Humboldt has teamed up to bring Missoula to the city.

Over the course of five days leading up to the Saturday performance, the cast put in long days that consisted of their normal school routine before going to rehearsal four hours each day.

Garland said the key to keeping everyone on task is having a high energy level along with co-director Molly Waters.

"We wouldn't be able to have any kind of focus from any of the cast if we didn't. It's always a fun challenge to see the little kids because they are so excited, so their energy overcomes them a little bit, but as long as we're energized and we keep them focused, like 'hey, alright, you gotta go here, let's go' and we make it kind of a game, then they can stay on it and grasp on to that."

Throughout it's 40 year existence, Missoula has worked with over one million kids, helping to develop life skills, which Garland says is the best thing about the tour.

"All of these life skills they can take with them throughout their life and continue doing whatever they want to do, whether it is acting, singing, dancing, being a CEO, running a business, anything like that. They can use life skills that are being taught here to do those things and succeed in them. Our biggest thing is we want them to succeed."

"I love that part about this job, is that they really take more than we plan to give them. They take away more from us and from this project, and we learn so much from them doing it, and incorporating their own ideas and creative aspects to the whole thing."
