Humboldt Mayor Rob Muench is extending his thanks to the hard work of snow removal crews in Humboldt.

A strong winter storm that dumped over 30 centimetres of snow on the area, followed up by another near 10 centimetres left an ugly scene on roads in the city.

"I want to thank city staff for going above and beyond," Muench said. "Also to citizens for helping out their neighbours with snow clearing and pushing out stuck vehicles and helping neighbours with recycling carts in the snow."

Priority routes were cleared right after the storm hit, with residential roads being looked after in the days following.

A lighter workload remains on cleaning up some streets which haven't received full service due to congestion from vehicles parked on the road.

Muench says that most of the workers were running overtime throughout the week, and working at all hours of the day.

"City workers are keeping a day and night crew for the entire week to speed up the snow clearing. In addition, many are working overtime," he noted.

Among some of the other tasks remaining, Muench says, includes clearing sidewalks and other paths.
