Humboldt Mayor Rob Muench and the other six city Councillors are back from the 112th annual Saskatchewan Urban Municipality Association that took place this week.

Muench, a councilor for ten years before becoming mayor agrees attending SUMA every year is worth the time and energy over the three days.

During a workshop focused on digital government Muench says the presenters pointed to the success of an app that the City of Humboldt has had in place for over a year.

"The presenter said we have this unique app here that the City of Boston is using to communicate with their people. It's called the See-Click-Fix app that we've been using in Humboldt here for over a year now, we were kind of honoured that we were ahead of the curve on that one as well so that was pretty cool."

Muench was also very pleased with accepting a municipal award in front of their peers for the 'Our Humboldt' strategic planning process.

"It's something that we've done, we've consulted the community and now we're putting that into practice. That award is telling us that we're going in the right direction. It was nice to have former Mayor Malcolm Eaton up there with us accepting the award because it was under his guidance that we did that project."

The biggest news coming from Premier Brad Wall who announced the provincial deficit is now over $1.25 billion.

Muench says they already expect to see less funds through the revenue sharing agreement the Municipalities have with the province.

"We're already taking a $70,000 hit on that, if you think about $70,000 it doesn't sound like a lot of money but that's about a two percent increase in our municipal taxes. It could be a big hit for us if they go further than that."

Right now the formula is that municipalities receives one percent of the Provincial sales tax revenue based on population.

Muench was very pleased that every Councillor was able to the attend the conference in Saskatoon, he said that is the first time he's seen all the elected officials there in a number of years.
