In yet another fundraising pivot brought on by the pandemic, the Muenster Elks organization once again put on hold its heralded spring steak supper in exchange for something equally delicious. This year, the charitable club put on a drive-thru rib event, on April 24, where patrons could pull up and pick up orders of sumptuous smoked ribs from the physically distanced comfort of their own vehicles. Pick up was at the Muenster Curling Rink.

Smokemaster Cliff Ehr was in charge of cooking over 200 racks of ribs served through the event. Ehr has been on hand at countless community events over the years grilling and smoking with his custom designed wagon. Flanked by a few of the region’s best pitmasters, the main course was bound to delight.

One of the key organizers was long time Muenster Elk Gord Kiefer. He explained that the usual sit down steak supper is a spring staple, but as it was last year, the event was cancelled due to health restrictions around gatherings.

“With COVID, we really couldn’t do it, so a few of the guys have been wanting to try a rib supper,” explained Kiefer. “Response has been fabulous. We only advertised through word of mouth and we sold out 230 meals in a matter of two weeks.”

The event is expected to net around $2,000 and funds are earmarked for renovations to the Muenster Club to improve accessibility. The fledgling event proved so popular that it will no doubt be on the regular fundraising calendar, along with the eventual return of the renowned steak supper.
