Supporting the art scene in Humboldt is as easy as chowing down on a burger.

On Thursday, the Humboldt and District Museum will be hosting a barbecue in support of the arts, says Jean Price.

"We are having the Humboldt Arts Council barbecue. We will be selling burgers and grilling them on the street infront of the museum," she explained. "All of the funds will go to the Humboldt Area Arts Council, which provides visual and performing art to Humboldt."

As cultural arts continue to grow in Humboldt, Price says that many of the exhibits that pass through the gallery are in thanks to the council.

"A lot of the touring shows we bring in through the Saskatchewan Arts Council we bring in through (Humboldt Area Arts Council) and their sponsorship," she said. "We've also done a couple of concerts, and we have a concert series also planned for this coming year and into 2017 that they are sponsoring as well."

The Arts Council was formed in 1974 and at its outset, covered all degrees of art in the area. Since then, performing arts have been taken over by Arts Humboldt.

However, visual art is still heavily relied upon by the council, and you can see that day-to-day in the city, according to Price.

"The gallery really is there to promote that kind of art and also give some exposure to art that you normally wouldn't see in Humboldt. The Arts Council works towards bringing that to the area."

The barbecue on Thursday will go from 11:00am to 1:00pm.

It is just the beginning of a food craved pair of days for the museum, who are having their ice cream day on Saturday, with hand churned ice cream for sale.
