An East Central Saskatchewan town has placed their bid to become the next Kraft Hockeyville.

Naicam launched the idea on Friday with a day of Hockey at the Vikings Sports plex.

Roger Hayward is the Mayor of Naicam.

He talks about how council reacted to hearing about the idea.

"We jumped right behind it, when Tracy came to us with the idea. Let's go with it, run with it, we could always use improvements in our rink, and it's just a great contest."

Hayward's son, Connor, plays Midget AAA Hockey with the Tisdale Trojans.

He describes his son's hockey journey to Midget AAA through the Naicam Minor Hockey ranks.

"He learned everything right from when he was two or three years old when he followed his older brother down to the rink and he hasn't left it since. It's just great, and that's just small town Saskatchewan, we've got so many great Hockey players that grew up playing Hockey in rinks like this and I'm just glad my son had that opportunity as well."

Rink Manager Tracy James explains what they would do with the money if they were to win.

"There would be major upgrades. There would be getting rid of our electric water heaters, going into Natural gas. Huge savings, going into LED lighting. There's multiple uses for it."

If Naicam were to win, the town would receive $100,000 in rink upgrades, as well as an NHL exhibition game either in Naicam or in a bigger arena in the area.
