The Humboldt District Hospital Foundation is checking off one item from their critical needs list.

A new fetal heart monitor is now operating at the hospital thanks to a donation from the Kinsmen Foundation.

Kinsmen contributed $10,700 towards the purchase of the monitor, making up the difference that the HDHF was short on following fundraising efforts at the 2017 Friends FORE Health Care Charity Golf Scramble.

"Not only are we grateful for the monetary support from the Kinsmen Foundation, but for the quick response time from when the application was submitted to notification that the application was approved," said HDHF Executive Director Lorrie Bunko.

Bunko says that in March 2017, it was determined that one of the old monitors was becoming unreliable, and later in the year, the machine quit working altogether, escalating the need for a new one to critical status.

Two monitors are needed at the hospital with two labour and delivery rooms on the go.

Bunko says that the new monitor has some updated technology that they previously never had.

"The new fetal heart monitor is wireless, so during labour, moms can now walk around while the baby is being monitored instead of having to stay in bed."
