New Field At Centennial Park Will Help Get People Active, Ulriksen Says

Centennial Park should have a brand new grass field by the end of day Thursday.

But you can’t walk on it just yet leisure services director Mike Ulriksen said.

“The more foot traffic you have right off the bat before the grass is able to establish, the better chance you’ll have that you’ll get some grass kill in there and it won’t last long-term.”

The city brought in a contractor to ensure the sod was laid properly, and city staff will keep it watered according to a schedule.

This is the last phase of the project to revitalize Centennial Park. Once it’s ready, likely in the fall, it will be used for picnics to football practice to minor soccer.

“It just opens up opportunities to get people out and active in the community,” Ulriksen said.
