It was a party 3 and a half years in the making.

The community of LeRoy officially opened their brand new rink on Saturday.

Kari Moore, chair of the fundraising committee, describes the fundraising efforts put forth by the community.

"Money wise, we've spent about the last 3 and a half years fundraising. There's been corporate donations, personal donations, all sorts of activities, (such as) farming with friends. It's just been an incredible amount of work of our whole community plus the surrounding communities as well that have chipped in, and helped us to achieve to be able to build a facility like this."

Saturday was a complete day filled with hockey, including an alumni game.

Craig Reinhardt played in the alumni game.

He shares his thoughts on the new rink.

"It's perfect, it really is. The people from home here have done such a great job of that volunteer work to raise the money and make this place as perfect as it is. You're not going to replace the old rink, but if you were to do something, this is what you would do."

The night was complete with a LeRoy Braves Senior Hockey game to close out the night.

The Braves lost to the Lanigan Pirates 6-4.

Brian Thoen is the Mayor of LeRoy.

He talks about the feeling of officially opening the rink.

"It feels really really good to have it open. It has been open since October 1st, but after tonight it's going to be a really good feeling. Everybody can sit back and relax, it's been pretty hectic already, just trying to gear up for this situation."

The old LeRoy rink burned down in a tragic fire 3 years ago.

The 5.6 Million dollar facility is 500 thousand dollars short of it's funding, so there are still fundraising efforts planned for the future.
