The City of Humboldt and the Humboldt Broncos plan to install a new score clock in the Elgar Petersen Arena by the start of next season.

"The City and the Broncos have been working together for a number of years trying to find a way to replace the score clock, and recently they came to the realization that now is the right time to go ahead and do that," city manager Joe Day said.

The existing clock was installed in the 1980s and it's getting more difficult to find parts and keep it operational, Day said.

A new score clock will include an LED video screen for increased advertising opportunities and the potential for showing away games.

The price tag is estimated at $200,000. The cost is to be shared between the city and the team, though the exact split hasn't been finalized, Day said.

Administration has discussed the idea with City Council in camera; council will still need to provide final approval.
