At 8:48 on Thursday morning, students at Humboldt Collegiate headed to their first classes for the second half of the school year.

For most, it signifies the end of a hectic week of exams, and a chance to reset and look forward.

"A new semester never goes by without students and teachers being excited about their new classes. Everyone is refreshed and eager to form new connections with other students and curriculum," said Principal Cory Popoff.

Despite the school year beginning in September, Popoff says that plenty of work still goes into the mid-year reset.

"Half of our journey is now complete for this school year, and we are all working hard getting ready for the final stretch. I am always amazed by our students and staff, and their desire to be the best that they can be."

Popoff says that its also a time where some departments ramp up their activity.

"Drama will be starting their preparations for an upcoming performance. Music festival is right around the corner, and planning is underway for our variety night."

He noted that the school's basketball and curling seasons are already on the go as well.

"We have great students at HCI, and we look forward in continuing to achieve great things in all of these areas."

Popoff says that a large part of the school's success, be it students, or otherwise, comes from a strong community.

"We are thankful every day for the continued support of our parents and community. Our students are able to achieve great things because of this support."

He concluded that it won't be long now either, until another round of Grade 12 students get set to walk out the doors.
