While a turkey meal may have been enjoyed over Thanksgiving, Saskatchewan RCMP are not pleased with some turkeys on the roadways.

Nearly 500 traffic warnings were issued during the long weekend as a result of Operation Impact, which is a combined traffic enforcement unit from several areas across the province.

Lanigan was among the areas targeted, with Saskatoon, Weyburn, Estevan, Carlyle, Fort Qu'Appelle, Broadview, Rosetown, Regina, North Battleford, Yorkton, Swift Current and Prince Albert area highways also being patrolled.

Through the four days of Operation Impact, the results included:

  • 439 speeding charges
  • 57 insurance-related charges
  • 34 distracted driving cellphone charges
  • 28 seatbelt charges
  • 3 alcohol-impaired charges
  • 497 warnings and inspection notices

Police remind drivers to do their part to keep the roads safe by slowing down, wearing a seatbelt, and not to drive distracted or while impaired.
