Students from across the region visited St. Peter's College in Muenster on Wednesday to explore potential paths for their education and careers.

Opportunities Edge was held at the college throughout the day, with around 50 presenters set-up, as well as Career Counselors within the Horizon School Division.

Student Services Officer Maury Wrubleski noted that it is a chance for students to find everything in one place.

"It's for students largely in the Horizon School Division, but it really is open to anybody," he said. "They are welcome to come here and find out everything there is to find out about post-secondary schools, trades, that sort of thing."

The expo has been offered to students for the past 11 years, allowing them to seek more information from schools in person.

"Career education and development is important for students and young people. So to expose them to opportunities throughout Western Canada, both for schools, but also for trades and technical training," noted Wrubleski. "We feel it really is important to expose our young people to all the things Western Canada has to offer, as well as in Humboldt and area."

He added that they welcome top schools from the prairies and British Columbia to showcase what they can offer students.

"We have many of the major universities and technical colleges here from across Western Canada," he said. "We have Sask Apprenticeship and Trades training folks here talking about some of their programming, which is integral in supporting students who want to go into trades."

In addition to education and career information, Wrubleski noted that they also had local organizations including Big Brothers Big Sisters, PARTNERS Family Services, and the Humboldt Regional Newcomer Centre.

The Humboldt and District Chamber of Commerce was also set-up, providing information about business and business resources.
