The federal government has announced just over $2.7-million in funding for Canada 150 projects for 2017.

Nineteen of the projects are in Saskatchewan, ranging from a monument at the Mackenzie Art Gallery to New Year's Eve celebrations in Saskatoon and Regina.

The City of Humboldt is set to receive some funding for the Original Humboldt project west of the city.

A total of $15,000 was set aside for the project in the announced grants.

Key activites of Original Humboldt include:

  • installing new artistic installations with accompanying storyboards about the history of the land
  • engaging with stakeholder groups to ensure stories are presented accurately and appropriately
  • continuing to work to return the 80 acres of land to native grasses
  • providing education and public programs, including a special event early in the summer of 2017

These activities will provide a chance for residents of Humboldt and area to learn about the history behind the area, and how it was first discovered.

The Original Humboldt site is approximately eight kilometres west on Highway 5 and three kilometres south at Telegraph Road.
