When City of Humboldt and staff sat down and launched the Our Humboldt strategy in 2014 the design was to lay out a plan for growth and the future.

The initiative that opened public discussions and brought many people to numerous meetings and sessions is now being noticed by the Saskatchewan Municipal Awards.

The Our Humboldt incentive was the second place winner at the SMA's recent gala.

"Humboldt was nominated for the 'Our Humboldt' strategic framework as a best practice application," explained Community Development Director Jennifer Brooks. "What the 'Our Humboldt' framework includes is the vision and strategy, the guiding policy as well as the budget process for the municipality."

The Our Humboldt strategy is a collaborative planning and engagement tool that has created a community-designed strategic plan that will assist council and staff over the next several years.

Brooks talks about how pleased they are to be noticed.

"It's incredibly exciting to be acknowledged by your peers. The SMA's are awarded to those municipalities that do best practice applications and demonstrate innovation in municipal operations."

They received the award on November 9th.

The City of Prince Albert took the top prize for their work during the Husky oil spill crisis this summer.
