It's a chance for you to show off your photo taking skills, and potentially have your photo on display in an art gallery.

The City of Humboldt has brought back its Our Humboldt Photo Contest for a third straight year, inviting amateur photographers to best capture the city's qualities.

"We really want to focus on showing off our seven Humboldt values," says Community Development Coordinator Colby McLelland.

He gave a pair of examples for potential photo enthusiasts to snap for the contest.

"Humboldt is walkable, active and healthy community. Taking photos of baseball, people biking, walking on the trails, for example," McLelland explained. "Welcoming, Humboldt is a safe, inclusive and accessible community where residents feel strong sense of belonging and have access to affordable housing, excellent health care and social services."

Other values for the city include:

Prosperous - diverse business, service, manufacturing, mining and agricultural community.
Creative - regional destination for heritage, arts, culture and entertainment.
Green - clean and beautiful place with thriving natural systems, ample parks, trails, greenspaces and healthy neighbourhoods.
Connected - inclusive community, connected by gathering places, events, transportation and technology.
Sustainable - easy to move around and infrastructure is proactively managed and built to meet the needs of the growing population.

McLelland says that the contest also gives you an opportunity to have your photo on display.

"What is really, really cool about this contest, is that the Top 10 photos will be displayed in the Humboldt Gallery, and the Top 3 winners will win awesome prize packages, as well as their winning photos printed and framed," he noted. "The rules are fairly simple. You can submit up to three photos, and winners will be decided at the end of July."

There is one restriction to the contest, according to McLelland.

"If you're a professional photographer, and what that means, is if you get paid to take photos for people, then you're not eligible to participate in the contest."

Entries will be accepted until Friday, July 15, and can be dropped off at City Hall, or e-mailed to McLelland.
