Work is back on at Centennial Park and the Uniplex grounds, where the north parking lot is being repaired.

The lot was closed in late September for crews to work on re-constructing the grounds. In October, the project was halted after an early snowstorm blasted the area.

That caused a wait and see approach, as the ground needed to either dry up or freeze for work to progress.

"We were at this point back in October when we got the snow, and the weather had prevented us from getting it completed to date," explained Leisure Services Director Mike Ulriksen.

He added that when all is said and done, there will be more access for users of the grounds and Uniplex.

"That will include parking from the west of the facility to the new future football and soccer field and all the way out to the highway," he said. "We will have significant parking there and replace what was missed on the north parking lot prior to the construction."

"We will have a lot of parking, and hopefully, if everything goes according to plan, prior to the new year."

Overall, the ongoing project is split into phases, with some work nearing completion.

"The second phase is 90 per cent complete. That would be the water trenching we put in there," noted Ulriksen. "The first phase, the larger one, where the ball diamond was replaced with a future football/soccer field, we're about halfway done that portion."

While work on the north parking lot has been ongoing, the southside curling rink doors have been open throughout the day to help accommodate users of the Uniplex.
