Red high heels were clacking on streets of Humboldt Thursday afternoon as Partners Family Services held their Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event.

Coinciding with the walk that lasted 20 minutes was a barbecue at Civic Park.

Executive Director of Partners, Hayley Kennedy, says that they are looking to introduce a new program with the funds raised.

"It allows us to train some youth to deliver the healthy youth facilitation program in community themselves," she explained. "Instead of hearing Partners staff going to the schools and talking about healthy relationships and good peer relationships, we'll be training students to do that instead."

Kennedy says that the Walk a Mile event is a very important cause of them, based on one of the key programs that they have.

"We have three distinct programs through Partners. One of them being the domestic violence outreach program, where we do work in homes in the community of Humboldt and also the 42 rural communities that we serve."

"With that program, we offer counselling, support and education to women and families who have experienced domestic and family violence."

Board Chair of Partners, Andy Burgess was also on hand for the walk and explained more of what they do.

"We are initial support for a lot of clients that come to us in time of need," he said. "If the issue is bad enough, we will refer them and also be support for them when they go on to the higher levels of support, whether that is RCMP or counsellors."

Burgess led off the walk with an introductory speech, thanking walkers for attending, and bringing more light to domestic and family violence.
